Partnership Supports Homeownership Initiative
CHFA has an ongoing initiative to increase Black and African American homeownership throughout Colorado, and in 2024 aims to support 635 Black and African American households in becoming homeowners. These efforts are part of CHFA’s Own Your Tomorrow community engagement campaign, which is bolstered by three strategic pillars identified by stakeholders and community members: education, outreach, and resources.
Throughout the year, CHFA is hosting educational workshops, sponsoring and attending events, and working alongside community partners to connect prospective homebuyers with the resources they need. In 2024, this includes a partnership with the career and community development nonprofit organization CrossPurpose, whose Denver headquarters are host to a free CHFA homebuyer workshop once per quarter throughout the year. More information about these homebuyer workshops and CHFA’s Own Your Tomorrow initiative is available at chfainfo.com/tomorrow.

Housing Credit Summit Held in Denver
On February 13th, CHFA hosted the Housing Credit Summit in Denver. More than 250 Housing Tax Credit developers, affordable housing stakeholders, and investors gathered at the event to network, share ideas, and hear from industry experts about market trends, state and federal policy, and resources to address affordable housing needs.
The event featured keynote remarks from Michael Novogradac, a nationally recognized affordable housing expert, and managing partner of Novogradac. Attendees also heard from Boston pediatrician and professor Dr. Megan Sandel, whose academic research focuses on place-based investing and the intersection of health and housing. At the conclusion of the formal agenda, CHFA shared a video featuring the stories of residents from tax-credit-supported developments throughout the state. It is available online at chfainfo.com/strengthening-colorado-video.

New Markets Tax Credits Awarded to Habitat for Humanity
In February, CHFA awarded $13.2 million in New Markets Tax Credits to support Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver in their acquisition and rehabilitation of a 46,000 square foot vacant building in Denver’s Athmar Park neighborhood. Upon completion, the renovated structure will serve as the organization’s new headquarters and will increase Habitat’s capacity to provide affordable housing and services in the Denver area while creating and retaining an estimated 140 jobs.
The new facility will feature spaces for commercial offices, community meetings, production and manufacturing, and a home improvement ReStore. The renovation will also include substantial energy efficiency upgrades, including the addition of solar panels, aligning the project with the Energize Denver Initiative to become carbon neutral by 2030.

Investments Assist Children and Families in Rural Communities
CHFA recently supported three childcare and early childhood development organizations located in rural Colorado communities. These investments will support the work of the Early Childhood Council for Yuma, Washington and Kit Carson County (ECCYWK); Connections 4 Kids, whose work serves Rio Blanco and Moffat Counties; and Firm Foundation Childcare in Meeker. In total, CHFA invested nearly $50,000 across these three organizations to support their work to equip childcare professionals, increase available childcare, and expand resources available to children and their families.
Access to childcare is a significant challenge for Colorado families, with recent data published by the Colorado Children’s Campaign indicating that there are approximately two available childcare spots for every three Colorado children under age six that need one. These shortages can be more severe in rural areas, where childcare providers are often scarce.

NAACP Freedom Fund Gala Honors
Black History
CHFA was a proud sponsor of the Denver NAACP Freedom Fund Gala held in February, which honored Black History Month and commemorated the 115th year of the NAACP. In total, nine Chfaians attended the gala, and CHFA Business Development Specialist Greg Brown spoke at the event about CHFA’s efforts to increase Black and African American homeownership in Colorado. Denver Mayor Mike Johnston and former Mayor Michael Hancock also delivered remarks.
Modular Housing Awards Announced
In February, CHFA joined Governor Jared Polis and the Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) in announcing $38 million in funding to support eight modular housing manufacturers. Funds were deployed from Proposition 123 and the Innovative Housing Incentive Program (IHIP), both of which CHFA administers on behalf of OEDIT. Collectively, these manufacturers will produce an estimated 4,700 units of housing per year and create approximately 1,280 new jobs.
Loan Supports La Luna Community
CHFA recently provided a $269,090 loan to ROC USA through the Colorado ROC Acquisition Fund to support the residents of La Luna Community, a mobile home park in Lafayette. These funds will support the collective purchase and cooperative ownership of La Luna Community by its residents, allowing them to collectively set lot rents and share in decisions regarding repairs and enhancements to their community.
